FirstDown PlayBook Makes Complicated Simple

Never Lose Your Work

There is a lot that goes into developing the FirstDown PlayBook tools that you find on your website. There is normally a problem that needs to be solved. The problem will be something that needs to be solved by doing something better, faster, simpler or maybe all three. Seems pretty straight forward doesn’t it? You would be surprised.

As Woody Guthrie or Albert Einstein once said (it seems they both get credit for it). “Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple.” Well, we aren’t going to take any credit for being geniuses. However, when we develop your FirstDown PlayBook tools we do keep this quote in mind.

Most coaches are straightforward people. They want a playbook solution that saves them time and is effective. Coaches have enough on their plate with all of the other things they are asked to do. So when they sit down in front of any new technology and it makes their life harder…they check out in a hurry. They should, because there is no reason for it to be complicated.

You’d Be Surprised At How Much Football Technology Is Made With No Coach Involved

Bad playbook technology usually exists for two or three reasons. The first one is that there are no football coaches in the room when the technology is developed. Stop and think about that for a second. How can you create something that is supposed to help people that do what you have never done? It’s hard and maybe impossible. If you don’t even know what the Duo run is how can you help someone else teach it?

“Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple.” Albert Einstein, Woody Guthrie & Richard Branson

The second mistake we see is, “This is how the Pros do it so you should do it this way too”. We especially get a kick out of this one, because we coached in the NFL for a decade. The workflow for a youth, flag football, high school and most college football coaches is drastically different than the NFL. For starters, the coaches normally don’t even touch the playbook tools. There are quality control and analyst coaches who do that.

FirstDown PlayBook Knows You Shouldn’t Need An Engineering Tool To Draw Plays

If the play drawing tools they use are not designed for football (Visio obviously is not) then these specialist coaches are told to figure it out. Why do they continue to do it? Because that’s the way it’s always been done. They can get by with that. You? You don’t have time to master an engineering tool as you coach football and teach class. Your FirstDown PlayBook tools are created with that in mind.

Before we get too long winded on this, just understand that we look at it differently when we develop your FirstDown PlayBook tools. We actually listen to you. Have we drawn plays in the NFL? Yep. More than they have, trust us. That is not our job now. Our job is to help you and your team. That means offense, defense AND special teams.

Our job is to provide you with proven editable playbook content that you can edit. We also provide you with simple effective tools to do that with. Woody Guthrie and Albert Einstein would be proud. You should be glad.
