We see it every year about this time. The panic starts to set in as busy moms and dads remember that they volunteered to coach the local youth football team back in the winter. If this is you then you understand the following. Usually one of the first things that you find challenging is locating your football plays and playbooks.

Regardless of if it is a flag football team or a youth tackle football team, organizing a youth football playbook can be hard. Why? Simply put, there is just so much garbage out there. It can be hard to sift through the bad and the good if you are new to coaching youth football. Today we want to take you on a list of three things to avoid when putting together your youth football playbook.

1) Oddball Plays & Approaches To Coaching

Look, there are a lot of differences in coaching in the NFL and youth football but coaching sound fundamentals is the same. When you see someone guaranteeing that your offense will score 40 points a game if you run their scheme, run as fast as you can. Often times these “gadget” approaches don’t work but they are also harmful to the development of the young players.

FirstDown PlayBook offers you sound football plays that are based on fundamental principles. We slow down to include coaching points that are critical to newer football coaches. All plays and defenses are drawn up vs multiple looks, not just one. We offer you multiple formations and defenses. After all, we don’t know your players like you do.

2) Plays & Defenses That You Can’t Edit

FirstDown PlayBook is going to offer you more and better plays and defenses than you will find anywhere else. Period. Having said that, we understand that you are going to want to edit the plays and defenses at least a little. Most flag football and youth football playbook help you will find gives you a pdf copy of their plays. That’s not much help for you and your team.

The flip side of that coin is that we see some people offering you a very rudimentary drawing tool that looks like a 5 year old would use for play time. There is no football intelligence associated because the folks behind this are not football coaches. You see this a lot with flag football as they offer you the ability to draw lines and that’s about it.

3) No Ability To Create Youth Football PlayBooks or Wristband Sheets

It is very important that you can not only create a sound offense and defense. You also have to organize it in a presentable way to your players and parents. You need to easily be able to create playbooks that keep you and your team organized. FirstDown PlayBook has put a lot of time and effort into this for you.

Everything is in one place for you. You can create youth and flag football playbooks easily for you and your team. Wristband sheets are just as easy. There is even a now section called coaching tools that allows you to keep your coaches organized with practice schedules. Position drills, you ask? Yep and that will also be critical as you begin practice.

Before we check out, we would also like to mention that you should avoid anyone who does not let you see what they offer for free before you buy.
