Wing T Midline Option

Sometimes we like to just play around in FirstDown PlayBook. At times we do it to find new ideas. Other times to see if we can find information that we drew up and have even forgotten about. After all, we have been drawing football plays, defenses and special teams schemes for nearly two decades now. This is how we came across this Wing T Midline Option.

I have always been fascinated by the Wing T. I have never run that offense, although many of the Wing T concepts have been a part of offenses I have been around. For me, the most intriguing thing is just how seemingly impossible it can be to stop. This is the case, even though you know the run game is coming at you virtually every snap.

When you slow down and look at some of the plays in the Wing T playbook, it becomes clear why this is the case. This Wing T Midline Option is a good example. This play gives you option football and power football all on the same football play. The quarterback is reading the first defender from the B gap out.

Pity The Strong Safety Who Has To Defend This Midline Option All Game

When this play is run against a 3-4 or a 40 under front, the quarterback reads the defender over the tackle. The great thing is that even if the reduction is to the option side, the quarterback can read the three technique and keep the play on.

The defense is forced to defend a quick hitting midline give to the fullback. This is hard to defend unless you squeeze or crash down in the A or B gap. The bad news for the defense is that when you do that, the quarterback is getting downhill with two lead blockers in front of them in the B or C gap. That’s enough to make a strong safety turn their pads in if they have to defend that all game.

Take a look at this short video to learn more about the play and how you can find it in FirstDown PlayBook. This play and thousands of others are there for you. You can edit every one of them to fit your football team.
