Can’t Draw Football Plays? You Don’t Know It.

By FirstDown PlayBook on Dec 16, 2024

There have always been a lot of football experts out there. It’s one of the reasons that our game is as popular as it is. There are player talent level and strategy involved with every play. How good the players and play calls are and have been debated for a long time. Keep in mind that many of these “experts” can’t even draw football plays.

FirstDown PlayBook thinks this is important to remember. Why? Well, we have evolved into a beast of different proportions when it comes to being a football expert. Social media and mainstream media have guaranteed that if you are interesting to football fans and can collect clicks, eyeballs or ears, they will help you spread your message. That is literally the only criteria needed to be a football expert.

You will find these “experts” on ESPN, ABC, Youtube, X, and even TikTok. They will be giving their opinion on how good or bad a coach, player or strategy was in yesterday’s game. That’s all fine. My hat is off to them. Afterall, their job is to make money, not to be right about the football they talk about.

Make Sure Your Football Expert Can Draw Plays.

What is cringe worthy is when we see self appointed or media appointed experts begin to influence people who are going to be actually coaching kids. It’s one thing for a Pop Warner or NFL Flag coach to watch football on TV as a fan. It’s an entirely bad other thing for them to get coaching ideas from people who could not draw football plays and defenses if their social media click rate depended on it.

So as you consume football knowledge make sure you label it for what it is. If it is there for entertainment use only then have at it. If it is for the purpose of teaching the game of football make sure that your source can actually draw football plays and knows the game.
