The Season Is Over. Now What?

Your Guide to staying organized this offseason.

If your season ended the last Friday night of the regular season or if you were one of the lucky programs in your state to qualify for the playoffs and your season is over; now is the time to start preparing for next season.  I have found it beneficial over the years to take about two weeks to clear my head before diving into what needs to be addressed for the next season. If you have not done your end of the season banquet that needs to be your focus.  If you have had your banquet take some time and watch some College Football or NFL games.  Maybe travel to watch some high school playoff games at a different level to see what other programs are doing.  On the other hand, just simply get away or spend time with family.

With National Signing Day around the corner, it would be a good idea to reach out to some college coaches trying to sell a current senior or put a younger player on their radar for next season.  Have you looked into offseason coaching clinics for your staff?  It might be a great time to watch that game you recorded because you saw someone doing something creative and unique that may give your offense, defense, or special teams a boost.  Read a book not based on football.

Some things to consider: What do you need to tweak offensively, defensively, or special teams wise?  What personnel changes with your players do you might have to make based on who is returning or who may have to move to different positions?  What opponents do you have on next year’s schedule that you may have to scout?  Do you need to hire additional staff?  What do you have to buy?  Is there a volunteer or parent that can take something off your plate?  Do you have a personal goal to accomplish during the offseason?  If you are a Head Coach or have been a Head Coach, the list goes on.  In other words, there is no offseason!  Here is an offseason guide to keep you organized and prioritizing things to do by month:
