Patriots Run The Ball With Brady’s Arm
The New England Patriots have a lot of assistant coaches out there. If you don’t believe us just check out social media as there are multiple football gurus explaining just how Belichick, Brady, McDaniels, and now Flores does it week in and week out.
We have always tried to steer pretty clear of most of this kind of thing and today will be no exception.
However, we do want to point out something that always has jumped out at us as we were on the unfortunate sideline that was playing the Patriots during our nine years in the league. It is still true as we have watched them over the past several years it has not changed very much.
The Patriots do as good of a job as any team in football of running the football with Brady’s arm. It is always amazing to watch how patient they are with the passing game as they dissect a defense. They often do so with the short and intermediate pass game out of a wide open formation. It is often a four or five yard gain and a football play that puts Brady as far away from harms way as possible.

Every time we see this we say to ourself, “There the Patriots go running the football with Brady’s arm again.”
So we here at FirstDown Playbook have no idea if this will show up on Sunday but here is an example of a pass play out of Empty formation that offers an offense a chance to run the ball with your quarterback’s arm.
FORMATION: Empty
PLAY: 422 China Y Corner H Go
DROP: 5 Step Drop
COACHING POINTS:
-Y outside releases just as he would if he were running a crossing route.
-F cheats his split inside 2 yards and must stay on the move across the middle.
-Z will explode off of the LOS and stutter at 5 yards before coming inside.
-Z will throttle in the curl as he heads back inside.
-QB will read the strong side Corner.
-If the Corner sinks throw the Z. Or if he bites the Z throw the Y corner route.
-If the strong Safety plays over the Y look for the X coming to the middle late.
