#1 Tool For Youth Football & Pop Warner Coaches

The rules of football are important. That sounds obvious doesn’t it? Having said that, there are some rules that are more important than others. When it comes to 11 man football, knowing what makes a formation legal or a player eligible to catch a pass rank right up there.

Before you yawn and dismiss this as below you, keep this in mind. Every year, in the first game of the season creative offensive coordinators take advantage of defensive coordinators who do not cover this in the first practice of the year.

Having said that, I am really writing this and including the important FirstDown PlayBook Youtube for youth football coaches. There are a lot of different kinds of youth football coaches.

Yes, there are some who correctly want to teach fundamentals and grow the young players as they learn to compete. However; make no mistake, there will be youth football coaches who will test you and your Pop Warner players to know the rules or pay the price.

The Rules Can Be Cruel If A Youth Football Coach Does Not Know Them. These 2 You Must Know.

There is nothing wrong with this. It is not my preferred way to teach a young football player but the rules are the rules. You and your players must understand what makes an 11 man football formation legal and what does not.

If you are coaching a Pop Warner defense, I am looking squarely at you. When a youth football offensive coach lines up in an illegal formation, they will likely get a flag thrown on them.

If your young defense does not recognize a trick formation usually disguised in an unbalanced or over formation, you will pay a heavy price. This is what we are trying to help you with.

In this video you will learn two very important questions you’re players must know before every snap.

  • How Many Players Are On The Line Of Scrimmage & How Many Players Are Off?
  • Who Is Lined Up As An Eligible Receiver & Who Is Not?

FirstDown PlayBook offers you 6 different defenses to help you line up against every formation. You should consider one or two of these for your Pop Warner defense. Tap on any one of the tiles below to visit the article describing that formation. After reading the article then go join FirstDown PlayBook and get busy coaching your Pop Warner team with the best football playbook available!
