Physical Youth Football Duo Run Play

It’s hard to find a football coach out there who does not like to run the Power play. This is especially true when it comes to offensive line coaches. The problem for a youth football coach can often come when it gets to finding a pulling Guard athletic enough to get it done. That’s why today I want to make a case for this youth football Duo run.
There are a couple of things that make running the Power hard for youth football aged players. It’s not only that your Guard needs to be athletic enough to pull and execute different blocks.
After all, your Guard may have to kick out their assignment or they may actually have to turn up inside to block a linebacker, depending on the defensive front.
There is also the fact that your Center may have to block back vs a penetrating 2 or 3 technique. If this is not executed, the play can be dead in the water before it ever gets started.
Finally there is a case to be made that as linebackers get better at reading offensive line blocking schemes, a pulling Guard is pretty easy to see. This key will take a linebacker right to the play.
The Pulling Guard Has A Harder Job Than The Linebackers On Power
For all of these reasons, and maybe a few more, you might want to consider this Duo run play for your Pop Warner youth football aged players on offfense.
This play gives you the same thing you have with a Power play in that you have a double team at the point of attack. You also have a Fullback getting either downhill on a Linebacker or kicking out a Defensive End.
Now your backside is shored up vs penetration and the Linebackers have very little to key until the double team and the Fullback are in their lap.
This youth football Duo run play has to be coached with blocking rules, just like any other run play. You will find our FirstDown PlayBook blocking assignments below.
Same Double Team At Point Of Attack But No Puller
The double team may be on the 3 technique or it could be on the 5 technique. In a perfect situation you can get a double team on the Center shade AND the 5 technique.
So take a look below and see what you think. This play may also be a good consideration as you begin to put together your youth football all star and travel teams next month. It’s a simple scheme that can be taught in a short amount of time.
