LSU Crosser Corner Creates 6!

By FirstDown PlayBook on Dec 9, 2019

The LSU Tigers have been a handful all year long and Georgia didn’t have answers either. This LSU crosser corner is proof positive.

LSU ran this play on the Georgia eight yard line with 16 seconds remaining in the first quarter. There are several interesting things to point out. One is the fact that Joe Burrow has been picking on the weak safety out of 3×1 all season long.

Not this time. Burrow does a good job being patient with the mesh and staring down the weak safety just as he often does. This time however he snaps his head back to the opposite corner of the field. Now we see the corner crosser!

#6 Terrace Marshall does a good job of being patient on the inside part of the stem for his corner route. So patient in fact that it could be argued it looks like a crossing route until very late.

Finally, when you look at this corner crosser, this is eight man protection. We are guessing that Burrows had one thing in mind with the weak side fade as a possible alert. He did not need the fade. The crossing route that turned into a corner was open and turned into six points for LSU as they went up 14-0 early.
