Flag Football Hitch Screens Help Young QB’s
It can be tough finding creative ways to run the football. This is even more true in flag football. If you are coaching in a league that does not allow blocking or shielding then you are even more limited with your run play call sheet. All of you NFL Flag coaches understand. Let’s talk flag football hitch screens.
One thought is to get the ball out on the perimeter as soon as possible. The matchup on the outside is likely to be a one on one situation. If that matchup favors you then let it rip!
Other things to consider are your receivers’ splits. If you can get a normal split then do it because that removes the receiver from the other defenders. However, if your quarterback’s arm is not all that, then go ahead and cheat the split inside like on the play drawing below. Flag football hitch screens or any screens do not have to happen out wide.

The quarterback’s technique is critical here. You need to coach them on taking the snap and popping their feet to throw the ball. There is no drop. It’s catch and pop your feet to the target and throw. This is true for youth football quarterbacks too, by the way.
