Find FirstDown PlayBook Formations Faster

By FirstDown PlayBook on Nov 16, 2024

A long time ago, thirteen years, to be exact, FirstDown PlayBook had a problem. It was the beginning stages of our playbook tool and we were naming FirstDown PlayBook formations and plays. At this point, I had thirty years of football coaching under my belt and knew that finding common ground on formations and play names was going to be nearly impossible.

When you have spent your entire adult life working on football it can change you in ways that even you do not notice. You don’t watch a game the same way. Your eyes and brain are trained to focus on certain things. This is because you have done it for so many years. You also do not communicate the same way.

This can be a good thing if you choose football as your vocation and passion. However, along with this comes the habit of talking in a language that can be foreign to folks who are not football coaches by trade. If you are not careful you will find yourself spewing off about a 7 technique or quarters coverage. Soon your listener glazes over the same way I do when my attorney or software developer talks to me.

FirstDown PlayBook had to do a great job of explaining how our website works. This included how and what we call things on FirstDown PlayBook. Our goal for FirstDown PlayBook was for anyone to be able to use it and coach with it. Obviously, having a way to easily find formations was a key part of this.

NFL Coaches On 12 Formations To Consider For Your Youth Football Offense

Fast forward 13 years and it is obvious that we have accomplished this to a large degree. When a youth football, high school/college football or flag football coach walks into FirstDown PlayBook they immediately see this is a full service playbook. There are color coded coaching tips for the flag football drawings. Coaching points and player assignments are provided for every play and defense in FirstDown PlayBook too. Of course you can edit every and all plays in FirstDown Playbook to fit your football team.

Another thing that we have done to make it easier for you too find what you need is to include information buttons. Back to my original point, these buttons are there to allow you to quickly see what we call our formations. There are a lot of different ways to call formations but when you see a diagram it helps you get to where you need to be in a hurry. Take a look at the short video above and it will show you how to use this great FirstDown PlayBook feature.

FirstDown PlayBook offers you many youth football formations with plays blocked up vs multiple defenses. You should consider one or two of these for your Pop Warner offense. Tap on any one of the tiles below to visit the article describing that formation. Yes, we have a ton of flag football formations too!
