Create Flag Football Horizontal Stretch
Every year about this time here at FirstDown PlayBook we see the same thing. Adult flag football leagues and tournaments crank up and almost immediately flag football teams try to find ways to throw the ball down the field. There is not one thought that goes into how to create any flag football horizontal stretch with their offense.
It’s as if most of them have not even read the rule book. Flag football offenses come out and immediately begin running 7on7 plays to throw the ball down the flag football field.
This is a monumental mistake, in our opinion. Unless your quarterback is that much better than everyone else and your receivers are that much faster, you will struggle with this philosophy. There are many things that are different about most flag football rules as compared to 7on7 rules.
First, the quarterback can run the football in most adult flag football leagues. The notable exception at the youth flag football level is with the NFL Flag rules for kids. Secondly, the Center is eligible to catch a pass in 7on7 flag football. These two things alone make the game very different than 7on7. There is a very real need to incorporate flag football horizontal stretch into your offense.
Adding Flag Football Horizontal Stretch To Your Offense Will Slow The QB Rush
The flag football video below details why we think every flag football offense needs horizontal stretch. Odds are your quarterback has some athletic ability. You are going to want to move them around in the pocket some. There are several ways to do this, but the tried and proven NFL Boot Orbit concept is certainly a good way to start.
For those of you who are skeptical, you will learn how this play can actually slow down that quarterback rush. When you add flag football horizontal stretch to your offense, you put doubt in the defense’s mind. Doubt makes a defense play slower. Check this short video out.
