Youth Football Shaded Nose Technique

Today FirstDown PlayBook continues our youth football defense and defensive line series. This is a project where we are taking you through every youth football defensive line technique. We break them down with FirstDown PlayBook diagrams and Youtube videos. We specifically want to look at the youth football shaded nose technique today.
Anyone who saw our blog or videos on how to coach a Zero Nose, saw that we think it is a very hard technique for a Pop Warner aged player to master. For the same reasons, we believe that a shaded nose guard or nose tackle makes a lot more sense.
One of the first things you want to teach when it comes to youth football defense is gap responsibility. By shading your nose, you are immediately making it clear that this young player is responsible for the A gap.
The FirstDown PlayBook Dropdown Allows You To Easily & Quickly Get To The Blocking Scheme You Are looking For

There are certainly other responsibilities that the various blocking schemes will present. However; job one for a youth football shaded nose guard is to stay in the A gap. You will also see us emphasize is that how wide or tight your shaded nose plays is important. Younger more inexperienced players should play a loose version of a shade so that they will not get reached by the center.
The consistent thing about coaching youth football players on the defensive line is that it is foreign to youth football aged players. You are going to ask them to get in a three point stance and play with bent knees throughout the entire play.
The natural inclination is for a young player to stand up and look for the football. Telling a young player to stay low is not going to be very effective unless you explain why they are staying low. The video below will walk you through virtually every blocking scheme that you will need to defend. Take a look.
