Your Youth Football Travel Team PlayBook

NFL Coaches On 6 Youth Football Defenses

We used to call them all-star teams. Essentially it was a team made up of the best youth football players from your Pop Warner or USA Football league. This has now expanded into youth football travel teams. The challenge remains the same for a youth football coach faced with coaching this team. How do I create a travel team playbook in a very short amount of time?

The answer is FirstDown PlayBook, but before we get to that, let’s look at the challenges that might not be so obvious, even for a youth football coach taking on this responsibility.

Time

These all star teams are often chosen after you have already played a full youth football season. If you are coaching an all-star team that means your time is limited. Let’s face it. A lot of your players are ready for youth basketball.

The youth football travel team situation is slightly different but time is still your enemy. Odds are you will spend time scouting, recruiting or however you form your roster. After that there is not a lot of time left. The parents who paid for their kids to be on your travel team will expect you to have a youth football playbook ready.

Travel Team Location & Proximity

Many a high school and college football coach learned their lesson about this during the 2020 pandemic. We were suddenly (overnight) put in a situation where we had to teach 100 percent remotely. FirstDown PlayBook was perfectly suited for this challenge.

Now six years later, make no mistake. This is your same challenge. If you are coaching an all-star team or a youth football travel team, you are going to have to communicate to many people from your computer before you ever get to the football field.

Conforming To All New Youth Football Players

Good for you if you are the all-star team or travel team coach. However, let me point out something to you. You are now faced with the same job every football coach in the world was back in July.

You must look at your roster and run an offense, defense and special teams scheme that fits your new players. Try to run what you know with player that don’t fit your scheme and you will fail.

Not FirstDown PlayBook’s First Rodeo

FirstDown PlayBook has been doing this for 17 years now. Some of you who are coaching a youth football travel team or All-Star team wer players when we started.

I coached in the NFL and college football for 30 years. FirstDown PlayBook knows what we are doing and we can help you.
