Never Lose Your Work

It is that time of year where you are seeing trick plays show up in critical games and often times deciding the outcome. This unbalanced formation Tackle Screen is a favorite trick play of ours for several reasons. Maybe the biggest reason is that it shows a big offensive Tackle a little love on a critical play.

One of the most important things to consider when you are considering a trick play is how much you have practiced it. More often than not it is a mistake to install a trick play and run it that week in the game. Plays like this unbalanced formation Tackle Screen are deceptive but they also take practice.

The main reason this is true is that on a trick play you have players doing something that they do not regularly do. In this case the fact that your offensive tackle is catching a screen pass is a great example. Plays like this tackle screen need reps.

This Trick Play Has A Lot of Upside If You Practice It Enough

Now back to why we love this play out of this set up. First, the unbalanced formation itself may or may not alert the defense to the fact that something is up. This depends on how well they are coached on defense. Either way, when the F receiver comes in motion, the defense attention will be directed to the strong side.

This motion could be the setup for a jet sweep. It also could just be one more way to overload the strong side of the formation. When the quarterback takes the snap and rolls strong, you have every eligible receiver on the strong side. That is of course except the tackle who is now eligible on the tackle screen.

This Tackle Screen Is A Chance To Reward Your Offensive Line

The final thing we like is the fact that you have a wave of offensive linemen blocking defensive backs and maybe one linebacker. You can also bet that your offensive line will bust their behinds to make sure this play works. After all, the next time the might be the lucky lineman who catches a touchdown pass!
