Scott Criner: So You Want To Call Plays!

Here at FirstDown PlayBook we are pleased to be a part of something that we know will benefit so many of our football coaches. Veteran college and high school football coach, Scott Criner is working on a project he calls “So you want to call plays.” This podcast series is going to be a thorough step by step guide to help an offensive coordinator formulate a plan for any one particular football season.
Many of you saw Scott on our panel discussion we hosted back in December. We hosted six professionals from different parts of the country who gave advice on how to interview for a head high school football coaching job.
One of the points that several panel members made, but Scott really hammered home, was that being a head high school football coach is about a lot more than just calling plays. In this new project, Scott takes a deep deep dive into what it takes to actually be a good offensive coordinator. Hint…it doesn’t start with calling plays.
So You Want To Call Plays? Scott Criner Walks You Through Being A High School Offensive Coordinator
We have had the privilege to see the slide show presentations that goes along with the “So you want to call plays” podcast. FirstDown PlayBook can tell you that this is much bigger and more detailed than a simple football coach self help project.

Scott will take you through a regiment and detailed routine that is not only great for a young offensive coordinator. It is also a smart move for any high school offensive coordinator who understands that every season is a new season. If your players are different then your scheme, more than likely should be different as well.
So take a look at this intro video that teases what will be coming down the road. Here Scott gives you some of his background and history that has helped him over his forty some years of coaching. He also gives you guideline for what he will cover over the course of the podcast.
This is important because you don’t arrive at a system like you see in “So you want to call plays.” without a few years of actually doing it.
