Rams Play Red Zone Bracket. Josh Allen Sees it.

All 22 Tuesday is presented each week during the football season with our friends at Coach & Coordinator, The Scouting Academy and FNF Coaches!

As All 22 Tuesday co-host Keith Grabowski mentions in this week’s video, the windows get tighter and tighter the closer you get to the goal line. The red zone is often a place where a young quarterback learns lessons the hard way.

This past Sunday the Buffalo Bills had it humming on all cylinders when this play came up. It was in the third quarter with 8:33 on the clock. The Bills were up 21-3 on the Rams at this point.

It was a key play on the game, even if at the time it seemed like Buffalo had the game easily in hand. The Rams dialed up bracket coverage on the tight end and the slot. This can be hard to recognize for a young quarterback like Allen.

Even if you do see that it is bracket you still have to determine who is getting covered in and out. It could be the inside receivers or the outside receivers. It could be to one or both sides.

One of the keys is where the leverage is on the outside receivers. Now, they can still disguise this but inside leverage generally means the bracket is on the the #2 receiver. Outside leverage on #1 is a tip that the bracket is on the outside receiver.

Here is what Josh Allen saw. You can tap on either diagram to see how it worked out for him and the 3-0 Buffalo Bills. Hint…without this play the Bills probably would not be 3-0.
