Partnering With OWIFA To Promote Women’s Flag Football

By FirstDown PlayBook on Feb 27, 2022

FirstDown PlayBook is excited to partner with The Ontario Women’s Intercollegiate FootballAssociation (OWIFA) as their official playbook resource. OWIFA is a not-for-profit student-led league organized and run by women’s football programs from colleges and universities across Ontario, Canada.

OWIFA is led by some very impressive young women. The association’s mission is to elevate the experience of women in football and encourage equitable opportunities for women in flag football.

OWIFA plays 11v11 contact-flag football. This game includes both offense and defensive lines. This style allows for a more dynamic game that is similar to tackle football. The league consists of over 400 athletes and 70+ coaches.

These programs participate in ratified women’s football programs at at the following universities.

Laurier University, McMaster University, the University of Waterloo, the University of Toronto, York University, Ontario Tech University, Western University, Queen’s University, and Guelph region.

OWIFA Is Just One More Example Of The Many Different Ways To Play The Game We Love

Each OWIFA team will use FirstDown PlayBook during their 22-23 season. This is a great example of how many different ways we are playing football. 11v11 flag football is rare, but what is great is that these young ladies have embraced it. They are not only embracing it, they are growing it. Their passion is obvious. Did anyone else notice the snow on the ground in the pic above?

Here at FirstDown PlayBook, we take pride in our efforts to grow the women’s game at all levels and locations. As the Official Playbook of both NAIA Women’s Flag and OWIFA, we are committed to being a leader in women and girls’ flag football around the world.
