Defending The Youth Football Beast Offense

By FirstDown PlayBook on Jul 5, 2023

Short and sweet here today because the video is a little longer than usual. (6 minutes). It’s worth it. Especially if you are a Pop Warner coach who is determined to defend the entire football field regardless of the offensive formation. This includes defending the youth football Beast offense.

Stop! Do not do this! It’s bad. Make youth football offenses go sideline to sideline. Do not let them run the ball downhill on you. Make youth offenses throw the football to beat you. Do not let them run the football.

Defend the players you are lining up against. The way some coaches defend the Beast offense is a bit mind boggling. Your practice time and focus should be on stopping the offense you will be playing, not all formations at once.

This video will give you one example of how you should defend oddball formations like the Beast offense. Particularly if they are all lined up in a box like this one is. One important thing to remember is you have to always be ready if they switch back to a more conventional offense like the Wing T.
