Create A Flag Football Wheel Route

When it comes to creating explosive plays, flag football is no different than tackle football. Other than having dominant personnel, the only way you are going to create explosives is to scheme them up. Creating a wheel route is an excellent way to get this done.

However; an explosive wheel route does not just happen. 90% of the time they occur when a flag football offense runs a base play well and the defense overplays it. This can leave a receiver or back wide open down the sideline.

As you will see in the video below, this concept can be run from any variety of numbers. You can even get it done with a 4v4 flag football offense. Most of the time a wheel route will come off of your traditional curl flat or slant flat passing concepts.

Explosive Flag Football Plays Don’t “Just Happen”

The flat route is generally the eventual wheel runner. It doesn’t have to be that though. There are creative ways to get your flag football wheel route from other places on the field. You can even design it from the opposite side of the ball with your formation.

The important thing to remember is that you have to protect your quarterback. If your flag football wheel route happens quickly then you should be fine. However; if you are running something like a double wheel route then you will need to keep a back or backs in to pass protect.
