Coach So Your Mom Could Understand It

By FirstDown PlayBook on Jan 28, 2022

When you have spent your entire adult life working on football it can change you in ways that even you do not notice. You don’t watch a game the same way. Your eyes and brain are trained to focus on certain things. This is because you have done it for so many years. You also do not coach the same way.

This is obviously a good thing if you choose football as your vocation and passion. However, along with this comes the habit of talking in a language that can be foreign to folks who are not football coaches by trade. If you are not careful you will find yourself spewing off about a 7 technique or quarters coverage. Soon your listener glazes over the same way I do when my lawyer or software guy talk to me.

FirstDown PlayBook tries to do a great job of explaining how our website works. This includes how and what we call things on FirstDown PlayBook. Our goal for FirstDown PlayBook is for anyone to be able to use it and coach with it.

NFL Coaches On 12 Formations To Consider For Your Youth Football Offense

We ask the question “Can my mom coach this?” as we put together all of our youth football and flag football sections. I love my Mom and she loves football but she has never coached it. This makes her a good measuring stick for us as we put together our youth football and flag football sections.

Another thing that we have done to make it easier for you too find what you need is to include information buttons. These buttons are there to allow you to quickly see what we call our formations. There are a lot of different ways to call formations but when you see a diagram it helps you get to where you need to be in a hurry.
