Bears’ Fuller Shows Up In A Critical Spot

Who says corners won’t tackle?!? Apparently nobody told Kyle Fuller of the Bears. This clip of him providing run support against the Packers shows the importance of processing and aggressiveness in stopping the run.

At the snap, we can see that Green Bay is in pretty good shape. They have the numbers to succeed, and it looks likely that they’ll gain some yardage on this play. Fuller, the corner, is the “force player” here, meaning he’s the guy who needs to set the edge of the run and not get out-leveraged.

As the WR works out to block him, Fuller remains patient until the time arrives for him to strike. He plants, drives and gets low to work around and then through the block. With his leverage, he explodes physically and drives through contact. He’s able to get his hands extended just enough to trip up the running back.

Fuller’s ability to process what he’s seeing as the run comes at him, diagnose the block, and formulate a plan of attack puts him in position to execute. Then his physicality and his willingness to sell out to make the play enable him to finish the play and limit Green Bay to a short gain.
