7v7 Flag Football 3 Level Read

By FirstDown PlayBook on Mar 12, 2022

Regardless of if you are coaching in a blocking or non-blocking flag football league the challenge remains the same when you drop back to pass. The quarterback must have a way to get the ball out of her hand quickly. If they do not then you have no football play. This 7v7 flag football 3 level read checks all of the boxes.

FirstDown PlayBook has learned a lot over the past seven years about the speed of the game when it comes to flag football. We have studied the high school game in Florida, Georgia and other states. As the official playbook of NAIA women’s flag football, we also focused on last year’s inaugural college season.

What we have learned is this. Even with the ability to protect the quarterback, the game still moves at a rapid pace. If you do not have quick answers then your play has no chance. This does not necessarily mean that all of your receiver routes need to be 5 yards or shorter. You can still create 2 and 3 level reads that are executed quickly.

If You Coach Flag Defense You Want To See This

It just means that your quarterback and receivers must be on the same page. The ball is going to leave the quarterback’s hand quickly. There is no time for guessing. The receivers need to be exactly where the QB expects them. Any pass protection that is designed will be very limited to how much time it provides. Any time you hear the word “blocking” in the game of flag football, understand it has limitations.

This 7v7 Flag Football 3 Level Pass Gives Your QB Quick Options

Today’s play is a blocking 7v7 flag football play but the major coaching points are all about giving the quarterback three quick targets that should show up in the strong side hook/curl area and yes…quickly before the pass rush gets home. If you like it there are plenty more, including these 9 NFL based 7v7 flag football plays.
