Titans Old School Bob Run Game Vs Colts!
Today we are going to look at the tried and true Bob run game play. We talk a lot here on the FirstDown PlayBook Coaches Community website about building your football team based on your personnel. This past Sunday another prime example showed up.
The Tennessee Titans obviously have a, if not the, most dominant running backs in the NFL Derrick Henry is not only good but he is arguably the most physical back in the NFL now that Marshawn Lynch has called it a day.
The Titans coaching staff did an excellent job of running a Bob package against the Colts on Sunday. Bob is short for Back On Backer. It is not to be confused with an Isolation run play. Isolation runs are downhill and there is usually at least one double team by the offensive line. The Bob run game is a zone play.
The Bob Run Game Is Part Of The Zone Run Game Family
Bob is a two back zone concept. Both backs will take zone steps that mirror the footwork of the offensive linemen. Normally an offense will look to run this play to a shade or one technique. This allows the backside guard to cut off the 3 technique.

These two plays and video today shows how the Titans created two big plays against the Colts on Sunday. You will also see that the Colts were pressuring and stunting trying to stop the play, but the Titans out executed them. This run scheme is also tailor made for Henry’s running style.
The final point before you watch this helpful video is that these plays are only the tip of the iceberg. When you have two decent blockers and Derrick Henry, you can continue to create runs and play-action/bootleg passes off of this for the entire season! As a matter of fact, you can too with your offense.
