8 Man Football Toss Sweep

By FirstDown PlayBook on Oct 22, 2021

Here at FirstDown PlayBook we throw a lot of Offense, Defense and Special Teams schemes at you on a daily basis. Some are more complicated than others. We want to use this 8 man football toss sweep today to prove that a blocking scheme does not need to be complicated to be good.

We know that some 8 man football coaches like to spread the field out just like 11 man football coaches do. However, there are also times when you are looking for a way to out flank the defense. There are also situations where your personnel does not allow you to spread it out.

This very simple 8 man football toss sweep is a good scheme just on it’s own. This is why it is even better if you pair it with other plays. The Y tight end is your secret weapon when you run this play. On this play you will notice that the offense is using motion to allow the tight end to get leverage on the defensive end.Anytime you play a four man front where the defensive end has his hand in the dirt this is a good play.

Pair This 8 Man Football Toss Sweep With Other Plays

The quarterback just has to make sure he allows the tight end to get just outside of the defensive end on the snap. If the defensive end is in a three point stance they will not widen. Okay, so what if the defense goes to a 30 front and stands up the end?

This is the secret sauce with this play. Don’t forget that you can run the sweep to either side because your tight end is moving. You can also insert your tight end in either A or B gap for a lead play. Your tight end can provide the backside block for a zone run too. Finally, there is a wicked bootleg pass game off of this too.
