3 Reasons FastBreak PlayBook Matters to Football Coaches

FastBreak PlayBook Coaching Tool

One of the things I learned over the thirty years as a football coach is that the challenges we face in our profession are not that different than basketball coaches.

During my time as a coach I drew on the wisdom of basketball coaches like Bobby Knight, John Wooden and of course, Pat Summitt. That’s why creating a basketball playbook was a no-brainer. FastBreak PlayBook was born shortly thereafter.

In more recent times I still have learned about the similarities whether it be Kobe Bryant talking about leadership or Steve Kerr on a visit with Pete Carroll.

Did I have any doubts or concerns about our ability to expand into another very cliquish group of coaches? Of course. When we launched FastBreak PlayBook in 2022, we had no idea how it would go.

Full disclosure, I had the same questions in 2010 when we launched FirstDown PlayBook and that has worked out well to say the least. Once again back to the similarities we found with football and basketball coaches.

So today, as a lot of football coaches are either preparing for the playoffs or to put the pads in storage for the winter, I want to remind you of why FastBreak PlayBook matters to FirstDown PlayBook coaches.

1. You Coach Both Sports

This one we had a pretty good idea about. There are a lot of football coaches who double as basketball coaches at smaller high schools. One of the things we credit most for our FirstDown PlayBook success is that when our coaches find us they stay with us.

That’s because they learn about how much time we save them. We also understood that basketball needed a Basketball Coaches Community just like our football coaches have. That brings me to…

2. Time Is Not Your Friend

I don’t care what you coach or what you do, time is always a consideration. We all get 7 days and 24 hours. Some of us are masterful with how we manage it and others never seem to have enough.

FastBreak PlayBook serves the same purpose as FirstDown PlayBook. It helps you teach better and you spend less time preparing your scouting reports, playbooks and charts. That time is spent teaching your players. It also gives basketball coaches a chance to vertically align all of their feeder programs with the varsity program.

3. Technology Is Here With Or Without You

Football, basketball or how you use your smartphone…you cannot escape technology. You can try if you want, but your staff, your team and even your family will pay a price.

We built FastBreak PlayBook just like we did FirstDown PlayBook. We had high school and college basketball coaches explain the workflow and how we could expedite it. The AI wave has become another huge factor.

So as we prepare to put October into the books lets look ahead November. If you are headed to the football playoffs congratulations. I hop FirstDown PlayBook is one of the reasons why. If you are on to basketball season, let FastBreak PlayBook help make you and your team better.
