FirstDown PlayBook Offers A Ton Of Youth Football Help Just Like This Youth Football Slant Technique

Playing a flag football zone defense can be an effective changeup. You can gain some of the same advantages that you do with tackle football. The quarterback sees what they think to be an open receiver, only to have another defender step in front of the pass for the interception. From that point on the quarterback will begin to process the pass game much slower.

A flag football zone defense can also be a good way to avoid one on one matchups that don’t look good for your defense. Playing zone allows you to take some pressure off of one single defender and spread that out to your entire defense. Although your defenders still have to match up to receivers that enter their zone it helps to avoid big plays like the deep ball touchdown. Man coverage does not provide this luxury.

However, flag football coaches need to take a look at their team before they choose the zone defense route. Zone concepts can be very hard for younger players to grasp. Often times you will end up with your defenders chasing receivers through the zones or in many cases the young player will just cover grass.
