FDPB At The Brazilian Football Association Clinic

By FirstDown PlayBook on Feb 7, 2022

One of the great things that comes with being FirstDown PlayBook is that we get to talk with coaches around the world. We experienced that this weekend. We were fortunate enough to be invited to speak at a football clinic hosted by the Brazilian Football Association.

Of course, we all know it is football clinic season. It’s a time to learn ball from coaches who have a little more experience or a different experience than you.

This weekend, we spoke virtually at the 6th Annual American Football Coaches Convention. This Brazilian Football Association clinic was well attended. FirstDown PlayBook’s Charlie Coiner worked with Paco Perez and Felipe Viana from the U.S. Consulate in Sao Paulo, Brazil to initiate this clinic. Along with their guidance and the help of point man Lucas Rossetti, from the Brazilian Football Association, this clinic was made possible this past Saturday.

The football menu consisted of breaking down three passing game concepts, NFL style. We looked at all of the different scenarios that can show up vs three favorite NFL pass game concepts. We first looked at the vertical concept, with four vertical threats down the field.

The questions offered up by the attendees were very on point and well thought out. It is obvious that there is a hunger to take their football knowledge to a new level. FirstDown PlayBook focused on what is involved with the quarterbacks and receivers as they execute these concepts.

The Hope Is That This Brazilian Football Association Clinic Can Get Back To In Person Learning Next Year

The Dagger concept, or the 294 concept, was next on the agenda. Charlie finished up by teaching the two mesh concepts. We distinguished the difference in the Drive concept and the Shallow Cross concepts. We focused on the different quarterback reads and progressions. Our primary emphasis was on the reads. The offensive coordinator must keep the reads similar and consistent. The changeups can come in the form of different formations with shifts and motions.

All in all, we looked at a lot of football and Saturday was a great morning. One that FirstDown PlayBook hopes will grow into future football clinics in person down the road. Our goal is and has been to grow the game of football anywhere on the planet that folks want to learn. FirstDown PlayBook is the perfect tool to help us get that done!
